Atmospheric Entanglement and Participatory Consciousness.
We are pleased to share that our founder Yasuhiro Kobayashi recently had the opportunity to facilitate the Suiten workshop in English at the TEA (Technological and Ecological Atmosphere) Symposium (April 18-19), co-hosted by the Feral Ecology Lab (Netherlands) and the Kobe Institute for the Atmospheric Studies(KOIAS).
His session, titled "Navigating the Awai of Atmospheric Entanglements: Cultivating Relational Awareness through Ryuiki Dynamics and Ancient Wisdom of Japan," allowed me to present the explorations we have been cultivating at Ecological Memes.
Using our "The words of Suiten Cards", he engaged in an international dialogue with researchers from various fields to bridge ancient wisdom with modern ecological practices.
The symposium itself was a fascinating cross-disciplinary space. It was inspiring to see "Atmospheric Studies"—rooted in New Phenomenology (Schmitz, Böhme) that moves beyond the limitations of Husserl’s classical phenomenology—breaking through the silos of modern academia to explore our interconnected existence.
A profound highlight was the closing keynote by Nora Bateson. Her insights into Warm Data and the "patterns that connect" resonated deeply with our session's focus too.
-Moving beyond the modern "observer consciousness" toward a participatory awareness.
-Recognizing ourselves as dynamic becomings inseparable from the dynamic environment (the "Awai" or in-between).
-Reclaiming "different ways of knowing" to sense the interdependent web of life.
This convergence felt like a powerful affirmation of the path we’ve taken—from our exhibition Ambient Agency in Europe to the philosophy of Regenerative Leadership. It was a true practice of "Symmathesy" (learning together), proving that the quest to re-weave our relationship with the world is a shared, global journey.
Thank you Yogi Hendlin and others. Deeply grateful to the organizers and participants for such a resonant and meaningful exchange.
